The Big Rock 2012 Story
Another year, another Big Rock Eddies Commercial Contest. If you are successful on your First Attempt , does “Third time’s a charm” still apply? Initially, we thought that might be the case. After last year’s disappointing decision not to include our Victoria Regional Winner in the Calgary finals, we decided to try one more time. We were hoping we could avoid some of the new found pitfalls we had uncovered and once again create a winning submission.
After a relatively smooth production day and editing process, we were delighted once again to be notified that we had been chosen as one of 2012 Big Rock Eddies Commercial Contest Top 18 Finalists. Check out some of the behind the scenes photos HERE. Once again we were invited to attend the big Gala Event in Calgary, and perhaps reclaim our title. A Big Fat cheque would be nice as well. At the very least, we were one step ahead of last year’s attempt. As the days leading up to the event whittled away we were disappointed to discover that we had a scheduling conflict and would not be able to make the trip to Calgary after all. Additionally, our network in Alberta is relatively small, so we couldn’t even send anyone in our stead. We resigned to connecting to the event via social media and staying up to date on the announcements of the winners. At the close of the day, we were disappointed to learn that we were not picked as a winner from the panel of judges, nor were we picked as the audience favourite. (A title that we also held in 2010). C’est la vie.
However, for your viewing pleasure, we’ve included the video below so that you can enjoy the fruits of our labour.
We’d love to hear what you think of our video. Please leave a comment here or with the video on YouTube. If you liked it, please share it with your network. Share it even if you didn’t like it. The question now becomes…what to do in 2013? To Submit or Not To Submit. What do you think we should do??

Big Rock ’11 Update
Well, you can’t win them all. I guess the world isn’t ready for Rockey Shores to take over the industry yet. We never seem to have any luck holding on to a title, whether it’s Big Rock Beer or Sportsnet. Maybe it’s just the need for parity, either way, we’re comfortable with it. If you haven’t figured it out, we didn’t place in this years Big Rock Beer Commerical Contest Top 18. We’d be lying if we said we didn’t care, the fact is we are really quite disappointed. We had such an amazing time last year, that we were so excited about being a part of it all again this year. We still will be, since we won the trip to go to Calgary, it’ll just be in the capacity of audience members and I am sure Matt will drink his weight in free beer. Truth be told we’re still stoked to be part of a 2000 person audience laughing and sharing in the accomplishments of Canadian filmmakers, amateur or otherwise.
The good news is that since we’re no longer part of the contest, we can now release the video to you, our audience and network of fans, friends and family. We were keeping the video under wraps before to minimize the exposure to the judges and to try and preserve the first time viewing impact. So, without further delay…
I know right? Why didn’t that make the finals? We were told that it had something to do with the idea of making fun of another beer company, even though Luhbetts is a fictional company. Apparently you can do a lot of risqué stuff like name parts of the male anatomy, but making fun of an imaginary beer brand…that’s a no go. Rattled. Matt has gone through so many boxes of kleenex since we found out.
So, the video is now out there. We hope that you laughed as much watching it as we did filming it. Please share it with your friends. It would be nice to see some success with this video despite not getting into the finals. We look forward to reading the comments that you post below or on our Facebook FanPage. You can even tell us what you thought by leaving us a comment or video response on YouTube. And of course you can follow us on Twitter!

Well, it’s that time of year again and the team at Rockey Shores Productions are happy to announce that we have once again submitted an entry for the Big Rock Beer Commercial Contest.
As is our style, we put a little bit of effort into the pre-production and planning of this shoot, but with such a strong team with the likes of @TimRockey, @MattWHammer, @RedfernMediaCa and @iamMkStevens, how much planning do you really need?? In fact, the shoot ended up being very smooth and efficient. Who knew we were capable of that?! If you were to ask Matt, he would say “It was all due to Tim’s excellent Leadership and set management”…. probably. You don’t need to ask him though. As our network develops, we’re able to invite more and more talented people to come out and collaborate on projects such as these. And it always turns out to be a fun filled day.
While we haven’t released the commercial to the public yet, we have submitted the entry to the contest organizers at Big Rock, and have received confirmation that our commercial was accepted. Now we have to sit back and wait to see if we are selected to the Top 18 finalists. Hopefully we’ll be given the chance to defend our title. In the meantime we’ll leave you with a few photos for you to enjoy and to start the gears of your imagination.
As always, we’d love to hear your feedback, so leave us a comment below, Connect with us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and checkout videos our leave us a video response of your own on YouTube.

Coming off the success of the Big Rock Beer Campaign in June, Rockey Shores Productions set out to once again try their hand at a commercial Contest submission. Cheetah Power Surge offered that opportunity. With significantly larger prizes for the top three winners, $25K, $15K, and $10K respectively, we were definitely excited for the challenge. With deadlines quickly approaching, we were finally able to bring all of the collaborators together on October 2nd, 2010. In a matter of a couple hours, we were able to shoot two commercial submissions, written and directed by Matt. A couple days later, Tim had the two 30 second commercials edited and uploaded to the Cheetah Power Surge website. After just over a week of processing, the videos were live to the world, and the online voting campaign began. The vote has since come to a close and now we wait to discover how we have placed. You can see the submissions here, and leave a comment to tell us what you think.

The Big Rock Beer commercial contest has steadily become a bigger and bigger event over its 25 year run. So much so, that for the last 17 years, to celebrate the winners of each year’s contest, Big Rock holds a Gala Event called the Big Rock Eddies. Why wouldn’t we want to be a part of that? That was the question that fuelled our efforts to Produce the 2010 Big Rock Eddies Grand Prize and Audience Favourite Award winner, ‘Bottle Run’.
